Supporting Our Communities through CSR Programs
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the core voluntary practice that Yoma Bank carry out with aims to positively impact the environment and communities that we serve as a way of giving back and contributing towards social and ecological developments. CSR strategy is a commitment from Yoma Bank to the community it serves that the Bank is true to its purpose of building a better Myanmar for its people whilst remaining accountable to its economic, social, employees and environmental impacts by focusing on the Bank’s 3 CSR pillars in the coming years.
Yoma Bank’s CSR aims to proactively address issues to either minimize or reverse the negative impacts, whilst formulating an actionable plan to further positive impacts in the targeted areas. Yoma Bank will commit to prioritize social, environmental, and people as our target areas through the CSR programs.
Yoma Bank is accelerating its CSR initiatives yearly and aiming to positively impact the community to build a better Myanmar together with its communities.
Pillars of CSR
Throughout our progression to ‘Build a Better Myanmar for its People,’ we have identified three pillars that will act as CSR strategic foundations, which are as follow:

- Environment - Sustaining the environment for generations to come
- People - Building our people to equip them for a better tomorrow
The purpose of the pillars is to ensure that we remain aligned and committed to Yoma Bank’s overall corporate strategy and our purpose when developing and implementing initiatives.

COVID-19 Medical Support for Employees

To support our employees during this COVID-19 pandemic, the Bank introduced additional key support activities, including the launch of a COVID Crisis Response Team (CCRT) with 5 Medical Doctors.
The CCRT is dedicated to support employees and their family members with not only COVID-19 related issues but also attending to any health-related matters, with a focus on both physical and mental wellbeing. The team has also been undertaking wellness education activities and hosting webinars in collaboration with Pun Hlaing Hospital.
COVID-19 Vaccination Program for Employees

Yoma Bank has continued investing and supporting employees during pandemic as part of our ongoing “We Care” CSR program. Yoma Bank launched a COVID-19 Vaccination Program in the last week of August 2021, which offered free-of-charge vaccination for all employees as well as to the employee’s family members with a special rate.
“Vaccine Donation” and “No interest - Emergency Cash Loan” programs were also made available so that employees with financial challenges could secure vaccine doses for their families. 92% of employees were vaccinated as of December 2021.

Health and safety of our employees and customers has always been one of the top priorities of Yoma Bank. With that in mind, we have been supporting our employees through various wellness programs as one of our CSR initiatives.
To protect them from seasonal flu, Yoma Bank regularly provides annual free flu shots for all the employees by acquiring services from Pun Hlaing Hospital. We will continue to prioritize the wellbeing of our employees and provide the necessary support in the future as well.
Silent Heroes Program

Yoma Bank as part of its new Corporate Social Responsibility program, “Hna Lone Thar Ayin Khan Yoma Bank”, donated Foods and Drinks for the medical staff at Yankin Children Hospital on 28th January 2021.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers, doctors, and medical staff are undoubtedly the frontline heroes and the backbone of effective health systems. In an effort to support both physical and mental spirits of our heroes, we as Yoma Bank has started the “Silent Heroes Program” under Yoma Bank’s CSR activities to show our respect and to honor our healthcare workers.
Yoma Internship Program

In January 2021, Yoma Bank initiated “Yoma Internship Program” with Step-In- Step-Up. Yoma Bank funded USD 6,800 for the program and the purpose is to create job opportunities for local community and workforce especially for those youths from the deprived area while enhancing their technical skills.
Upon completion of SISU standard core vocational training, the potential candidate will be given an entrance test prepared by Yoma Bank and only successful candidates will be selected to join Yoma Internship Program. The successful candidates will be trained and equipped with necessary skillset for their future career development.

Ensuring the health and safety of our communities has always been our top priority throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Yoma Bank has invested in supporting employees, customers, and communities during the pandemic as part of our ongoing “We Care” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. On 19th January 2021, as part of “We Care” CSR program, Yoma Bank contributed MMK 200 million to Yoma Group's total donation of MMK 500 million for Government COVID-19 Vaccination Fund.

Financial Challenges In The Covid-19 Era 3rd World Savings Day Forum in Myanmar

From 27th to 29th November 2020, in collaboration with GIZ, UNCDF, SBFIC (German Saving Foundation), JICA and DGRV, Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry, Central Bank of Myanmar and Yangon University of Economics hosted the “Financial Challenges in the COVID-19 Era: 3rd World Savings Day” forum virtually with the aim of educating how to manage money effectively.
The purpose was to help SMEs, YUE students and individuals to succeed in managing financial challenges during pandemic. Yoma Bank not only provided the financial contribution of USD $1,400, but also contributed three subject matter experts to share the knowledges about financial challenges during pandemic.
Yangon General Hospital COVID-19 Focus Donation

On 24th November 2020, Yoma Bank donated portable ultrasound equipment to the Yangon General Hospital (YGH) to better support the needs of medical resources and complement the efforts of our first-line medical personnel caring for the unprecedented rise of patients with COVID 19 cases. Yoma Bank has committed to provide further resources to complement the efforts of our first-line medical personnel.
Endowment Funding to SOAS University of London

On 5th November 2020, Yoma Bank funded USD 25,000 dollar to SOAS University of London, to raise the fund for the existing post of Professor of Burmese and for the new post of Lector in Burmese.
A securely funded academic program of research and teaching in Burmese is crucial to achieving a fuller and more nuanced understanding of Myanmar, its cultures, and its civilization. However, the challenging economic environment for higher education in the UK has posed the threat to the future of Myanmar Language at SOAS. Yoma Bank believes that it is important to help maintaining the sustainable future of Myanmar Language teaching at SOAS.
