30 January 2026Press News

29 January 2026 – Yoma Bank, one of Myanmar’s leading private banks with over 32 years of experience as “The Responsible Bank,” has successfully completed the installation of a large‑scale solar power system at its Head Office compound in Star City, Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region. The project, completed in February 2025, features a 592.38 kWp solar grid, a 525 kW inverter, and 1,087 solar panels.

Between February and December 2025, the solar system generated 635,045 kWh of electricity. A comparison of electricity meter costs at Yoma Bank’s Head Office between April–December 2024 and the same period in 2025 shows a reduction of more than 27%. In addition, by selling excess solar energy to Thanlyin Estate Development Limited (TED) within Star City, the bank earned more than MMK 50 million in additional revenue in 2025.

“The installation of solar panels at our Yoma Bank Head Office is a significant milestone in achieving our sustainable development goals, which benefit both the community and the natural environment,” said U Kyaw Soe Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Yoma Bank. “Investing in renewable energy allows us not only to reduce carbon emissions but also to lower electricity and diesel consumption, and we hope this initiative will serve as a model for other banks and businesses in Myanmar. Through Green Financing, which can be leveraged for national economic

development, including climate change protection, natural resource conservation, and energy‑efficient operations, Yoma Bank is committed to strengthening its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) leadership.”

As part of Yoma Bank’s long‑term sustainability efforts, (66) out of the bank’s (85) branches nationwide are now operating with solar power systems as of December 2025. Employees are also contributing to environmental conservation through daily practices such as reducing paper usage, expanding digital processes, and conserving electrical energy. Looking ahead, Yoma Bank plans to install an additional solar system in 2026 to support a solar‑powered data center at the Head Office, further strengthening the bank’s renewable energy infrastructure.

With the mission of “Building a Better Myanmar for Its People,” Yoma Bank will continue to pursue long‑term sustainable development through the collective actions, capabilities, and commitment of Yoma Bank employees. Yoma Bank remains dedicated to nurturing and preserving a better environment for future generations.
